QUALCOMM India Private Ltd. (QIPL) has expanded engineering
and business operations to support our global CDMA development activities and
ongoing efforts to advance CDMA technologies in India.
QIPL opened its location in
Hyderabad in April 2004 and is designed to help keep pace with QUALCOMM
CDMA Technologies (QCT) expanding business needs. Projects cover a wide span,
including wireless modem and multimedia software, DSP and embedded
applications. Multiple opportunities at various experience levels and titles
exist for research and development, test and customer support activities.
QUALCOMM Internet Services (QIS) and an Engineering Services Group have also
established an office in Mumbai for CDMA marketing, BREW support and technical
support for CDMA carriers.
On September 30, 2004, QUALCOMM Incorporated announced the signing of a
definitive agreement to acquire
Spike Technologies, Inc. , a leading semiconductor design services
company, headquartered in Milpitas, California, with a design center in
Bangalore. Spike Technologies is being integrated into QUALCOMM CDMA
Technologies (QCT) division to help QUALCOMM further address the increasing
demand for faster time to market of more feature-rich products in 90 nanometer
(nm) and below process technologies. The addition of Spike's engineering
resources strongly complements QUALCOMM's commitment to provide
third-generation (3G) CDMA customers and partners with design, sales and
technical support around the world.
Bangalore
This charming city is fittingly nicknamed the "Garden City" because of the
beautiful flowering trees and parks throughout the city. However, due to the
recent dramatic industrial growth, the city is also called India's Silicon
Valley and is perhaps one of the most westernized cities in India. Bangalore
has several growing industries producing a variety of items, with electronic
equipment manufacturing rapidly rising. The Information Technology Park is
located in White Field, just outside Bangalore, and includes office space and
residential apartments. Aerospace research and biotechnology are also growing
fields. The favorable climate helps support the many lush gardens with an
average temperature of 80 degrees (F) and ranges from 68 degrees - 93 degrees
(F). The city is also home to the Vidhana Soudha, an imposing public building
that is lit up every Sunday evening and houses the Secretariat and State
Legislature. Several languages are spoken here including Kannada, Tamil, Telugu
and Hindi.
Delhi
Located in the Northern region of India on the Yamuna River, Delhi is the
National Capital Region with a population of over 7 million and has a very hot
climate. The city has so many historical sites one can hardly choose which ones
to see. However, a few include India Gate which was dedicated to Indian
soldiers who died in WWI, the Red Fort which was built in Old Delhi when the
capital was moved from Agra to Delhi, and the Lotus Temple built by the Bahai
community in a unique shape of a Lotus flower. Delhi also has numerous top
Colleges and Universities including the Indian Institute of Technology, and the
Al-Falah School of Engineering and Technology. Being a major travel hub in
India, there is access to several large international airports, one of the best
connected train stations served by three main stations, and numerous rental car
agencies.
Hyderabad
Hyderabad, with a population of over 7 million and the fifth largest city in
India, is also the capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh. Famous for its rich
history, Hyderabad is known for the many monuments, temples, mosques, and
minarets that can be found throughout the city. There are a number of famous
landmarks such as Charminar, the edifice of four minarets. Other sites that
should not be missed include Mecca Masijid, an enormous mosque in the old city
along with the Qutb Shahi Tombs a kilometer north of Golconda fort's Banjara
Darwaza. The Qutb Shahi Tombs include a cluster of seven tombs which were
erected in the memory of the kings of Golconda and are an incredibly beautiful
site and amazing to witness. Beginning in the late 1990's prominent software
companies began moving to the area, creating a nickname for Hyderabad of
"Cyberabad." With 8 Universities and over 200 engineering colleges, Hyderabad
is one of the most, if not the top cities for cutting edge technology.
Mumbai
Surrounded by both the Arabian Sea and Mumbai Harbour, Mumbai serves as the
capital city of the state of Maharashtra in western India. As one the worlds
largest cities, it is used as the primary port in India. Indian citizens view
Mumbai as the center for many things in life: culture, economics, and as the
overall spirit of the country. Mumbai is also regarded as the country's film
industry headquarters. There are many beaches to visit in Mumbai and tourists
can be found enjoying the sun essentially all year round.
