Job Description
We are seeking an experienced researcher to lead system software projects at the newly established Qualcomm Bay Area Research and Development Center.
Qualcomm, a leading global developer of next-generation wireless technology, has created a place where big dreams are backed by investment and a commitment to innovation. Our new Bay Area Research and Development Center (BARD) in Santa Clara, California takes Qualcomm's traditional strength in wireless technologies in new directions, with the help of passionate researchers like you.
As a BARD Researcher, you will be given opportunities to dream up new innovations in many news areas of mobile computing.
Called BARD (for Bay Area R & D), the new center will take Qualcomm's traditional strength in digital wireless technologies in new directions such as mobile internet protocols, mobile commerce, security technologies, client software platforms, distributed applications, search and discovery, virtual machines, sensor technologies, and location based services.
Skills/Experience
The qualified candidate will lead research projects from concept generation to prototype implementation.
We are growing our research activities and staff in systems software for mobile devices. We have particular interest in mobile browser technologies,
1) Mobile Browser technologies - We are seeking a senior researcher with expertise in a variety of web technologies including client browser technologies, CSS, HTML, rendering, JavaScript interpretation, JIT compilers, security and optimization for hardware platforms. Our focus will be to advance the state of the art in browser design exploring new markups, and approaches to scripting languages, The ideal candidate will lead research in new browser and design for mobile clients with a strong emphasis on the performance of web browsers.
2) Distributed/Cloud computing for mobile computing platforms- We are seeking senior researchers in the areas of distributed computing/cloud computing. The qualified candidate will have strong knowledge of existing browser technologies, and server cloud computing infrastructure. Experience designing and implementing distributed systems required, with knowkledge of global resource allocation, and process/task migration. Understanding of runtime systems and how to partition function across various devices will be part of the research mission.
3) Parallel systems - We are seeking senior researchers with expertise in a various aspects of a parallel systems including programming languages, tools, and hardware. Experience designing and implementing parallel runtimes and libraries, schedulers, load balancing, and compliers required. Experience designing parallel algorithms tuned for specific hardware architecture is required. Understanding the tradeoffs between symmetric and assymetric multiprocessing, applications partitioning, performance and energy efficiency is required.
A PhD in computer science is preferred, with 5 - 8 years of experience in industrial or academic research. Prior work experience industrial research a strong plus. A strong publication record is a plus.
